Nothing gives away your age like the neck!! And let’s be honest, no one wants to have this statement spelt out as a constant reminder of your biological clock moving forward.
Science has confirmed that aging process can start as early as your 30s.
With aging, the outer skin layer becomes thinner due to a decreased production of substances such as collagen and elastin, that work together to give your skin its texture and shape. While this intrinsic process affects all skin surfaces, the face and neck areas are more exposed to factors like UV exposure and suffer more damage.
I think that people tend to neglect their neck and decollete area during their routine skin care regimes, focusing more on their face. In fact, higher concentration of sun screen and preventative ant aging treatments goes to the face, leaving out the neck which often becomes a silent victim.
Don’t forget that your neck receives the same damage from environmental factors as your face and therefore, it needs the same attention!!!!
In GC Aesthetic, Nurse Prescriber Giacinto always start his consultations with a holistic approach, which includes the neck area. His ultimate aim is to create an efficient treatment which involves a combination of aesthetic procedures and topical treatments.
Mesotherapy is an effective treatment that I would recommend for anyone who wants to prevent neck aging. It can be performed on people from their twenties upwards. It employs multiple injections with a tiny needle containing a medicated cocktail of minerals, hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids. Two or three sessions are recommended one month apart.
Profhilo is an Italian product and my favourite treatment. It is suitable for all ages and its unique formula not only boosts and hydrates the skin, but also remodels and tightens the sagging tissue. Two sessions are recommended one month apart with very little recovery time.
Anti-wrinkle injections work very well on hyperactive neck muscles. Botox relaxes the platysma bands and delivers effective results by smoothing out lines and tightening the neck. However, when there is a major loss of collagen and elastin in the skin, a combination of Botox and either Profhilo or Mesotherapy is recommended.
Topical treatments are very effective at improving the outcome of procedures and make the results last longer. I like to tailor specific skincare treatments that my clients can incorporate into their daily skin care regime. For every day use on different types of skin and for all ages, I prescribe the correct medicated cream from the Obagi range which provide advanced formulas delivering straight forward results in reducing superficial lines and restoring skin texture.
