PRP – Skin Rejuvenation

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Commonly known as the “Vampire Facial”, PRP is a blood-derived biologic therapywhich uses platelets derived from the patient’s own blood for the cosmetic treatment of wrinkles, general skin rejuvenation and hair loss treatment. After a blood sample is taken, it is centrifuged (spun rapidly using a specialist machine) to producethree different layers: red blood cells, a central coat layer made of white blood cells and a top plasma layer. The latter is what we use for skin rejuvenation.

The aim is to provide a rich collection of platelets in the plasma. These platelets provide the essential growth factors that are involved in tissue repair mechanisms and plasma is essential for cell survival as it contains vitamins and proteins.

How the PRP is prepared?

A relatively small amount of blood is drawn in a tube and then centrifuged (spun at high-speed using a specialist machine) which separates the red blood cells, white blood cells and plasma. The plasma is then removed and placed into a syringe ready to be injected.

How does PRP rejuvenate the skin?

PRP stimulates production of collagen and elastin within the skin. As a result, wrinkles are softened and hyperpigmentation reduced. Numerous studies around PRP have shown improvements of skin texture and overall quality.

Three sessions one month apart are recommended for the best outcome.
